Back in October 2024, we shared details of the “I’m Me” project at York St John University – which aimed to encourage autistic people and those with disabilities to explore themes of identity, representation and voice through the creative arts. Read more about it in our previous blog post.
The multi-modal project will culminate in the I’m Me Festival, running on both Thursday 19th, and Friday 20th June, where artists with learning disabilities will share the work that they’ve created during the project.
Included within the festival is an exhibition telling the story of the research project, alongside theatre, dance, and film performances.
The two available timeslots have a repeating programme, and take place on Thu 19th June, from 4-8pm, and Fri 20th June, from 12:30-5pm, both at York St John Creative Centre, a short trip from the centre of York. If you’re interested in attending, get a ticket at the project’s Eventbrite page and you can contact Kelsie Acton, one of the organisers, at k.acton@yorksj.ac.uk.
Many thanks to Kelsie for allowing us to share their exciting event!
